Welcome to Our Home

Before Decor

The front room of a home is so important. Think about it, every time someone knocks on your door, their first impression of you, your home, and your family is what they see the second that door opens. This is probably what has made decorating our front room especially difficult for me.

Our front room is divided by porcelain wood tile and carpet. It has a view of the staircase and opens into the start of our kitchen. It contains large windows that look across the street to the park. It is a beautiful space... especially now.

The Shiplapped Wall

In August, we saw online that our buddy, Jeff, had decorated his guest room wall with shiplap. It looked SO good that both Jacob and I complimented him on it. Not more than a few minutes later his wife, Jenn, was texting me to see if they could help us with our front room wall as a housewarming gift. We immediately accepted their offer.

Two days later Jeff showed up with his nail gun, a pile of wood, and his son. Jacob, Jeff, and Christopher (Jeff's son) worked on the wall all morning. I had to leave for a baby shower, but giggled as I left; every time they fired a nail into the wall our dog jumped.

Christmas Tree

I returned home to a beautiful new wall. We added a couch from my Tucson apartment and I ordered some (relatively) inexpensive armchairs from Target. We threw up some frames we received from our wedding and felt well on our way, but something was still missing.

We couldn't help but continuously notice the large blank space between the couch and chairs, but were unsure how to fill it. We decorated our home for Christmas on November 1st and came up with a perfect, but temporary, solution... a Christmas tree!

Now that Christmas is over, we're on the hunt for a more permanent solution. I am thinking a mantle like the one I'm showing here (from AntiqueFarmhouse.com), but am definitely open to suggestions. If you have ideas, please feel welcome to comment below.
